We are pleased to announce that Mark Sutherland, Acting University Librarian, University of Newcastle will be the inaugural Manager, Content Procurement for CAUL. Mark brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in relation to content procurement and leadership. He will take up with position in late April 2019.

11th February - The Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) and the Australasian Open Access Strategy Group (AOASG) have made a joint response to the Plan S implementation guidelines welcoming the plan’s aspiration to move toward immediate full open access.

On the 4th September 2018 Science Europe announced cOAlition S and Plan S – a process for achieving full and immediate open access to research publications by 2020.

CAUL and the AOASG have released a joint statement about the importance of Open Scholarship. The statement responds to recommendations in the Australian Government Funding Arrangements for non-NHMRC Research report released by the Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training in November 2018.

CAUL welcomes changes to Australia’s copyright laws introduced by the Copyright Amendment (Service Providers) Bill 2017 which passed both houses of Parliament on the 27th June 2018. The Bill will extend the safe harbour provisions in the Copyright Act to the disability, education, library, archive and cultural sectors.
