Eligibility
If you are a current university staff member or student at a participating university, you can register to borrow from another participating university. Registration is personal and not transferable.
The following categories of student may not be eligible to borrow via the Scheme and should check with their university before attempting to register:
- Students enrolled in a single subject rather than a program (e.g. enabling courses)
- Students of Open Universities Australia.
Visiting scholars and adjunct staff members will require proof of their affiliation with a participating institution to join.
Registration
How to register
The host institution arranges registration. You do not need to contact your university library.
Each institution’s website provides registration information. The [directory of participating institutions] provides links to the relevant web pages.
You will require the following to complete your registration:
- Photo identification
- Proof of your enrolment or current employment at your home university, such as your student or staff identification card or an enrolment advice letter
The host library will supply you with a borrowing card.
Registration fees
Some libraries may charge a fee for registration. The fee is at the discretion of the host library.
Registration period
Registration begins on the date you registered and is valid until 28 February of the following year, regardless of when you registered.
Registration renewals
You can renew your registration if you remain enrolled or employed at your home institution. Contact the host institution to renew your registration. You will require proof of continued enrolment or employment to renew.
Borrowing conditions, services and rules
Borrowing conditions and services
Borrowing conditions and other privileges, such as what and how many items you can borrow, the length of loans, and access to reference services and the internet, will vary depending on the rules of the host library. You can learn more about membership privileges by visiting the ULANZ Borrowing Scheme page on the host institution’s website, which you can access via the [director of participating institutions].
You cannot request an interlibrary loan or document delivery through the host institution. Instead, contact your home library for these requests.
Return of loans
You must return any borrowed materials to the lending (host) library.
Overdue loans
The host library sets penalties and fines for late returns according to its local rules. If you lose or damage an item, you must report this to the host library, and the host institution may impose a penalty, fine or fee.
Your home library has indemnified its users to be able to participate in the ULANZ Borrowing Scheme. As such, if you do not pay fines or invoices, the host library will send details to your home library, which may impose penalties (blocks and sanctions).
