The CAUL Awards

The annual CAUL Awards were established in 2023 to recognise, celebrate, and promote the outstanding achievements and innovation of staff working in CAUL Member institutions, from innovative teams to emerging leaders and mentors, focusing on recognising leadership. From 2024, the CAUL awards became a biennial event.

The Awards were conferred on 27 May at the CAUL Council Meeting in Meanjin (Brisbane).

Awards guidelines

The CAUL Awards guidelines are released annually to coincide with the call for nominations. A record of the guidelines for each year is maintained by the CAUL Office.

Award categories

Awards are made in several categories.

  • Indigenous Leader Award (two awards, one each for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples and Māori peoples)
  • Emerging Leader Award
  • Mid-Career Award
  • Outstanding Library Team Award
  • Distinguished Service Award.

The criteria for the categories are released as part of the award guidelines.

Awards timeline

Nominations open in the first quarter of each year. The nomination period will be five weeks. Recipients are announced at the CAUL Council meeting which follows the nomination period.

The CAUL Achievement Award 2002-2019

From 2002 to 2019, the CAUL Achievement Award recognised outstanding contributions that supported the achievement of CAUL’s strategic priorities. 

This Award was discontinued in 2019 and replaced with the new CAUL Awards in 2023.
