Open Educational Resources Advocacy Project

2021-2022

This project developed resources and strategies to support university libraries in advocating for open educational resources (OER). The work responded to growing interest in OER adoption across Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand universities. It also addressed a key insight from an earlier survey of CAUL Member institutions that suggested that librarians needed support to move beyond content curation to more strategic OER advocacy. The project team delivered a comprehensive advocacy toolkit for practitioners structured around key topics and real-world scenarios from Australian and Aotearoa university libraries. The team also developed an advocacy planning workshop offered as part of the CAUL Enabling a Modern Curriculum Conference in 2022.

To develop the toolkit, the project team worked closely with critical friends, including international OER experts, and drew insights from both local and global practices. The resulting toolkit incorporated user-generated content from the CAUL community, ensuring resources remained current and authentic to the Australian and Aotearoa contexts.

This project was an initiative of the Enabling a Modern Curriculum Program.
