Open access agreement analytics

To support Members in evaluating the value and impact of open access agreements, CAUL collates, cleans and provides access to publication reports supplied by publishers with whom CAUL has an open access agreement.

About the analytics

Publishers with open access agreements through CAUL must supply CAUL with regular reports on open access publishing under the agreement.

Publishers are provided with a set of requirements to guide what data they provide and in what format. However, due to factors including publisher system constraints, internal processes, and resourcing, publishers’ capacity to meet the requirements varies significantly.

As a service to Consortium participants, CAUL cleans and ingests the data from all publishers into a central database and presents the data via a series of Tableau dashboards that provide insights into publishing patterns and the value institutions derive from publishing under the agreements. Institutions may also download the cleaned data in the standardised format via the Tableau dashboards.

Data is included from the commencement of each open access agreement. For agreements that commenced before 2021, when CAUL developed the first set of open access publishing dashboards, earlier data may not be available.
