CAUL has established engagement principles for its communities of practice to ensure these spaces are inclusive, welcoming and safe for all participants.
General engagement principles
The following engagement principles apply to all CAUL communities of practice. Some communities may have additional engagement principles designed specifically for the nature of conversations in that community. These are published in the charter for each community of practice.
CAUL communities of practice provide inclusive, welcoming and safe spaces for members to engage in critical discussion, information sharing, professional learning, and problem-solving. Members agree to enact the following norms as they engage in the communities of practice.
Community of practice members:
- participate in the communities of practice in their capacity as staff of CAUL Member institutions
- are free to share openly, debate ideas, and challenge perspectives; however, critique is focused on ideas, not individuals, and personal attacks are not acceptable
- engage constructively in group discussions, listening and responding with an open mind
- recognise the value of diverse voices in community discussion, and encourage each other to participate
- speak from their own experience and represent their own perspectives; they do not presume to speak for the group.
Use of community of practice email lists
In addition to these engagement principles for communities of practice, the engagement principles for email lists also apply to community of practice email lists.
Additional principles
Community of practice members should refer to the charter for each community of practice to view additional principles that apply to particular communities.
