The purpose of the Library Value and Impact Community of Practice (CoP) is to provide a collaborative platform for library staff in university libraries across Australia and New Zealand to promote best practices and build shared expertise in planning, performance, evaluation, and measurement. Established in 2017, the CoP aims to address the challenges of developing effective assessment tools, methods, quality principles, guidelines, standards, and policies that accurately reflect the unique needs and roles of university libraries in the region. By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the CoP supports library professionals in enhancing the impact and value of their services, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with the evolving needs of academic communities.
The Terms of Reference provide more information about the community of practice, including its purpose, scope, and participants’ roles and responsibilities.
The objectives of the CoP are to
- identify, gather, and seek agreement on community requirements
- serve as an informal point of contact for library staff on issues related to value and impact.
- contribute collaboratively to building the broader library community’s capability in value and impact
- identify linkages and opportunities for collaborative strategic and technical projects
- uphold the principles of manaakitanga, which involves caring for and supporting each other, showing respect, humility, kindness, and honesty in all interactions
- foster a sense of community and collaboration among library staff, encouraging the sharing of experiences, ideas, and resources
