Open Access Procurement

CAUL is committed to accelerating the transition to open access. As part of this commitment, the CAUL Consortium negotiates open access publishing agreements that enable researchers to publish openly without individual article processing charges (APCs).

These agreements allow participating libraries to repurpose existing subscription spending to support open publishing, in accordance with CAUL’s Strategy and the Board position statement on open access, which call for a more equitable and sustainable scholarly publishing system.

Our open access agreements are designed to:

  • increase the proportion of research output that is freely and openly accessible
  • ensure fair and transparent pricing models
  • support equity of access for authors and readers
  • provide institutions with robust reporting and usage data.

CAUL also supports participating institutions by providing shared infrastructure, reporting tools and communication resources to help maximise the impact of open access agreements.
